Kirkwal, Ayre Hotel ****

The only 4 star hotel on mainland Orkney. The Ayre Hotel overlooks the harbour only 5 minutes walk from the historic town centre, St. Magnus Cathedral and other attractions. Loch Harray, Merkister Hotel***

Midway between Kirkwall and Stromness on the shores of Loch Harray with good fishing and fantastic views, this friendly hotel run by the MacDonald family is your perfect base. 13 en-suite bedrooms with all the usual extras and the residents' lounge hosts a courtesy bar. The restaurant "Skerries", featured in Michelin and Egon Ronay, serves table d'hote and a'la carte menus and has an extensive wine list.

Island of Westray, Cleaton House Hotel****
	Family run hotel with six en-suite bedrooms finished to the highest standard. The cuisine emphasises fresh local produce especially seafood, beef and unique seaweed-fed lamb complemented by home-grown vegetables, leaves and herbs. The Stout family opened the hotel in 1990 and pride themselves on a blend of quality and informality that has led to 4 stars from VisitScotland.

St. Ola, Foveran Hotel ***

A warm, inviting family run hotel & restaurant set in Orkney's unspoilt countryside with beautiful views over the anchorage of Scapa Flow. Situated only 3 miles from Kirkwall (by A964), Foveran makes an ideal central location from which to explore the splendour of Orkney. With eight recently refurbished en-suite bedrooms (all ground floor with just 1-5 steps) and excellent restaurant facilities guests can be assured of a comfortable stay.

	Enjoy breakfast in Miller's House, oldest house in Stromness (1716), renovated by the Dennison family to a high standard. Just around the corner are 6 en-suite bedrooms (3 ground floor) in Harbourside House (also 2 bedrooms in Miller's House). Centrally situated and very convenient for ferry. Town parking.

Harray, Rickla Guest House *****
	Friendly, 5 star comfort. Panoramic views, lounge, conservatory and 2 lovely suites with sun lounges. A treat.

Orphir, Westrow Lodge ****
	Wonderful Norwegian style timber house with Scapa Flow views and 2 spacious bedrooms. Ideal for day trips to Hoy. Also has self catering Buxa Farm Chalets sleeping up to 6 each.

Kirkwall, Polrudden Guest House***
	Friendly, family run house with 7 bedrooms and a large private car park. In a peaceful location 10 minutes walk from the town centre.

Kirkwall, Brekkness Guest House ***
	In a quiet area 10 minutes walk to main town centre with 11 bedrooms.
