Over 30 years ago the illustrious Monty Pyton Crew stayed at the Gleneagles hotel in Torquay. Here they were confronted with a hotel owner, who called his guests names for handling the cutlery. Also he threw a bag, belonging to one of the guests over the wall, as he suspected it might contain a time bomb.

One of the Monty Pyton actors was more then amused and called his wife, the actress Conny Booth to tell her he had this idea for a new comedy.

Thus the television series Fawlty Towers was born and became a world wide and immense success. Although this imago of the local hotel was blemished, they eventually transformed it into a success. The Gleneagles Hotel got a new owner who invested in a drastic refurbishing of the hotel, which now is a more then comfortable, boutique style hotel. Nowadays the Gleneagles is THE place to stay in Torquay.
